About Companion Choice

Companion Choice is an independent review publication covering AI companion apps. We exist for one reason: to give you an honest, tested answer to "which one is actually worth it?"

How we test

1. Real accounts. We sign up like a normal user — including paid plans where needed to test the full experience.
2. Structured scenarios. Every app goes through the same conversation scenarios so results are comparable: onboarding, character creation, short chats, long multi-day chats, and edge cases (contradictions, memory checks).
3. Scored criteria. We score conversation quality, character customization, pricing transparency, ease of use, and support — then weight them into an overall rating.
4. Quarterly re-tests. These apps change fast. We re-test and update scores at least every quarter, and every page shows its last-updated date.

Editorial independence

We earn money through affiliate commissions (full disclosure here), but commissions never influence scores or rankings. Companies don't preview our reviews, don't pay for placement, and don't see scores before publication. If an app is bad, we say so — even if it pays us.

Who runs this

Companion Choice is run by a small independent editorial team. We sign up for every app we review with real accounts, test conversation quality, builders, and billing ourselves, and re-test quarterly. We don't accept payment for placement — when an app changes, our rankings change.
